Week Six (October 26-November 1)

how the new shows didCBS started the week off by giving all four of its freshman series a full season pick-up.  No show deserved its pick-up more than Scorpion.  Losing The Big Bang Theory as a lead in, only to have The Millers, has not been a disservice to the freshman drama.  It slipped a mere tenth this week and has been one of the biggest surprises of the fall season.  NCIS: New Orleans and Madam Secretary continue to be a force in total viewers, taking the top two spots.  The weak link of the new pack was Stalker, which dropped to a new 1.6 low.

The show with the best week was ABC’s Black-ish.  Facing the World Series on Wednesday night, Black-ish climbed three tenths week-to-week, while its lead in grew one tenth.  With its spike, it tied How to Get Away with Murder for the top rated new series of the week.  Quite impressive for ABC and the two series’.  Week three of Cristela held even with the Halloween holiday, a big positive for the new comedy.  Forever looks to be on its way out, dropping a tenth to tie its all time low.

NBC got itself into more trouble this week.  Week three of Marry Me dropped yet again, this time to a 1.5 demo.  Even with The Voice as a lead in, Marry Me is struggling big time.  After a slow start last week, Constantine crashed and burned in week two, falling five tenths in the demo.  We can give it a slight pass this week because of Halloween, but if there is no uptick, its likely 13 and done.  Speaking of done, NBC announced A to Z and Bad Judge had been cancelled.  For the (few) fans, the network will air all 13 episodes.

Right in the middle of the pack is The CW.  The Flash and Jane the Virgin each slipped a tenth this week, dropping them to 1.4 and 0.4 demo, respectively.  This was another strong outing by The Flash, and Jane the Virgin continues to post year-to-year gains in its timeslot.

As has been the case, FOX is in a bad position, even with the World Series.  Gracepoint remained at its 0.8 low and Utopia crashed in its return to a paltry 0.5.  Neither show should be on the schedule, but FOX has too many other problems to worry about at this point.  Again, the only shining light for FOX this week (besides the World Series) was Gotham; it remained above a 2.0 yet again.  Time for a schedule shakeup FOX.
