Week three was less kind to both Scorpion and Gotham, although both still had strong performances.
Up first was Gotham on FOX. Week three brought in 6.36 million viewers and 2.5 A18-49 demo. Compared to last week, Gotham was down 15% in total viewers and 10% in the demo. Once again; however, Gotham remains the only show on FOX with any traction. It will likely be the only show over a 2.0 on the network, with the exception of The Simpsons.
CBS’ Scorpion continues to surprise, with the latest episode notching 11.93 million viewers and 2.5 A18-49 demo. That is a steeper drop than the show experienced in week two (down 3% in the demo last week vs. 20% this week), but Scorpion still is doing much better than many expected. Of course the big question remains: will Scorpion hold once The Big Bang Theory leaves for Thursdays? CBS should do its best to protect Scorpion, which is the strongest drama offering the network has aired in the past few seasons.
In addition, The CW debuted the new season of The Originals last night to 1.36 million viewers and 0.7 A18-49 demo. While those numbers are down sharply from its series premiere one year ago (down 30% and a new series low in total viewers), it is a vast improvement over past CW Monday series’. We will have to watch and see where The Originals settles, but as of now, I consider this an okay start on a new night.
