Week One (September 21-27)

how the new shows did

It was an exciting week for new series!  A total of ten new shows were on the air, with two (Forever and Utopia) airing two episodes.

ABC had the best week of any network.  They scored the top new drama of the season (How to Get Away with Murder), and the top new comedy of the season (Black-ish).

Over at CBS, they didn’t attract much in the 18-49 demographic, but they did bring in the viewers.  NCIS: New Orleans attracted an eye-popping 17 million viewers, easily becoming the most watched new show of the week.

First place NBC held back most of its new inventory.  The new show they did air; however, performed well.  The Mysteries of Laura outperformed many expectations, drawing a surprising 10 million viewers in the lead off Wednesday timeslot.

And finally, FOX had a week it would like to forget.  Not only did their returning shows drop, but two new series are nearing cancellation numbers.  Year-long Utopia is well under two million viewers and Red Band Society fell from its already low premiere.  FOX did have a saving grace in Gotham, though.  It was the youngest-skewing new series’ of the season.
